October 28 - November 1, 2019

This week we will further our investigation into the question “What are the benefits and risks of building a pipeline through Yosemite Park?” by wrapping up our understanding of competition and beginning to think about the Interactions of Organisms. In Math we will continue on our understanding of proportion by exploring common mathematical relationships, i.e. measuring cooking ingredients, communicating speed, etc.  This is Unit 2 of Illustrative Math. In addition, students should be working on their Khan Academy Assignments in class, but may be completing them at home as well. Remember that practice can be found on KhanAcademy in the Illustrative Math section!

Monday
Math Block
Thought Exercise: Analyzing Algorithms
Thought Exercise: Number Line
Concept Study: Proportional Thinking - Introducing Graphs of Proportional Relationships (Illustrative Math) (Khan Academy)
Studio: Proportional Thinking
Intervention Focus: Operations with Negative Numbers

Tuesday
Math Block
Thought Exercise: 100s Chart
Thought Exercise: Translating Expressions and Equations
Concept Study: Proportional Thinking - More about Proportions (Illustrative Math) (Khan Academy)
Studio: Proportional Thinking
Intervention Focus: Simplifying Fractions and Calculating with Fractions

Wandering Wednesday
Science Block
Today we will review our learnings about competition and invasive species and take a mini-assessment.  Students with high understanding will have an opportunity for a bonus mini project! We will take a break between the review and assessment and walk around the block.  We will do more outside activities! Please note that on Wandering Wednesdays, as with every school outing, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing choices!  Unless severe weather is in the area, we will do our excursions, rain or shine.

Thursday
Science Block
Students will begin to discover the interactions between organisms.  Today we will walk around outside to take note of biotic and abiotic factors in our environment.  We will also make note of how they affect each other.

FriYAY!
Students will continue to work on their FriYAY project!
