January 28 - February 1, 2019

This week we will be entering our unit on weather!  

Monday
 
Today we will finish our environmental impact posters that we began last week.  We will also present them to each other in class!

Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students may write a 3, 2, 1 reflection on their in class learning.  (3 things I learned, 2 things I already knew, and 1 thing I still want to know.)  It is due Tuesday.

Tuesday
 
Students will begin working on a new Padlet.  The Intro to Weather Padlet will cover topics like Water Cycle, Clouds, Precipitation and Air Masses and Fronts. They should be completing 2 assignments per day to stay current. Students will be quizzed next week over the padlet content.  Links to Quizlet and Quiziz study resources are also on the padlet.
Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students may write a 3, 2, 1 reflection on their in class learning.  (3 things I learned, 2 things I already knew, and 1 thing I still want to know.)  It is due Wednesday.

Wednesday
Students will continue to work on The Intro to Weather Padlet.  They should be completing 2 assignments per day to stay current.

Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students may write a 8-sentence reflection on the assessment they took in class and their experience programming.  It is due Thursday.
 
 
Thursday

Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students must write an 8-sentence paragraph reflection on how they feel about their grade in class.  Their reflection must include at least one successful topic of understanding and at least one area for improvement.  It is due Friday.
Friday
Students will be going on their field trip to the mall today! Homework: None on Fridays.

January 21 - 25, 2019

We are back at it!  This week, we will finish up new information on human and natural impact on ecosystems.  

Monday

Tuesday
 
Students will complete and turn in their Ecosystem Changes padlet.  Students will be quizzed on Wednesday over the padlet content.  Links to Quizlet and Quiziz study resources are also on the padlet.

Wednesday
Students will complete an "Anchor Chart Review" which will revisit all of the content that we have learned since the beginning of the year.  Students will be tested tomorrow on review content as well as pre-tested on our upcoming content. When they are finished, they will work on code.org, madewithcode.com or scratch.mit.edu to continue to learn computer programming!

Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students may write a 8-sentence reflection on the assessment they took in class and their experience programming.  It is due Thursday.
 
 
Thursday
Students will take the Panorama Neighborhood and Wellbeing Survey that Dr. Williams has already emailed you about.

Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students must write an 8-sentence paragraph reflection on how they feel about their grade in class.  Their reflection must include at least one successful topic of understanding and at least one area for improvement.  It is due Friday.

Friday
Students will begin discussion on our Novel Engineering unit. We will read Island of the Blue Dolphins as an in-class book club.  The focus of our reading will be two-fold. First, as engineers, we will be identifying problems the characters encounter throughout and design solutions for those problems.  Second, we will be identifying real scenarios of natural and human impact and the interactions of organisms within ecosystems.

Homework: None on Fridays.

January 14 - 18, 2019

This week, we will dive deeper into both human and natural impacts on the ecosystem.  All of this week’s activities are available on the Ecosystems Changes Padlet.  Additional study resources are also available on the pallet!

Monday - Friday

Students will use the Ecosystem Changes Padlet to research the topics of biodiversity, invasive species, human and natural impacts, and threats to the oceans.

Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students must write a 3-2-1 reflection (3 things I learned, 2 things I reviewed, and 1 question I still have.) Homework is every night but Friday.

January 7 - 11, 2019

Welcome back!  We have an exciting week planned to reset expectations, review procedures, and revisit our previous content.  

Monday
No School

Tuesday
Students will review classroom procedures and see a mini-documentary about Caine's Arcade.  We will spend the remainder of the period building our own classroom arcade using the Engineering Design Process!

Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students must write an 8-sentence paragraph reflection on Caine's Arcade and how Caine's actions may relate to their studies of the environment.  It is due Wednesday.

Wednesday

Homework: Students must complete this Energy Review Worksheet.  It is due Thursday.

Thursday
Students will take a review assessment on Energy and Ecosystems and a pre-assessment on Biodiversity and Human Impact.  This will likely continue into Friday.

Homework: Students may complete 10 minutes of MobyMax, Learning Blade or Legends of Learning.  Alternatively, students must write an 8-sentence paragraph reflection on The assessment they started in class.  Their reflection must include at least one successful topic of understanding and at least one area for improvement.  It is due Friday.

Friday
Students will complete their assessment and review their assessment data.  They will then set goals in preparation for next week.

Homework: None on Fridays.
