April 30 - May 4, 2018

We are so excited to have submitted our biome projects and completed testing!  To celebrate, we are starting another project!  It will be done in-class, sort of.  We are planning an outdoor classroom!  We currently have one, but it could use a little love.
So I have challenged the classes to a competition between class periods to determine the problems, imagine, design, source, budget, and write a grant to create a new or upgraded outdoor classroom. I have one visitor scheduled to discuss construction of outdoor structures, but to my families who professional experience in this area, I welcome you to come speak to the students about their ideas, share information about your profession or provide feedback and critique of our plans.  Please email me to schedule a visit.
Perhaps one of our grants will be funded and we will be emailing again to ask for volunteers to actually create this space!  Students began brainstorming Friday.
Today, I took them outside to sit in the space, feel what its like, discussed problems and solutions. I recorded our conversation for the purpose of notes. Their homework tonight was to google "outdoor classroom" and come to class with three written ideas. Tomorrow, we are going to look at the brainstorming process and organize some of our thoughts into a mind map. We will then split into teams based on the different elements they want addressed in their plan. They will work with the sub-group until Friday/Monday when we will have a landscape construction professional speak with them about their plans, etc.  The same person will come back towards the end to help judge the projects.

Then next week, they will be working on budgets, plans, etc. Then prototypes.  But I'm getting ahead of myself!

April 23 - 27, 2018

“Stars don’t shine because they want to be seen. They shine because they are stars.” – Alexander Den Heijer

The time has finally come for us to share all that we have learned!  We will have an abbreviated class period because of testing this week.  During which, we will be reviewing via Kahoot and Quizlet Live!  I am providing the links just in case anyone wants a head start!

Our TN Ready testing for Science part 1 is Tuesday and Science part 2 is on Friday.   Once more, some review resources are at the bottom of the email!

Students also turned in their projects on Friday and I will be working this week to score them.  As such, students may have few grades for their progress reports.  Once the projects are scored, I will provide an updated progress report that reflects the project grades.  Next week, students will have the opportunity to reflect and improve on their current project scores in order to improve their projects and grades.
